The region was a prominent center of maritime trade during the Middle Ages, with the town of Amalfi itself being a major naval power. Its strategic location along trade routes led to a fusion of cultures, influencing the architecture, art, and traditions that still thrive today.
Must-Visit Places:
Positano: With its pastel-hued buildings cascading down the cliffs to the sea, Positano is a postcard-worthy destination. Explore the narrow streets lined with boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants, and don't miss the opportunity to relax on its beautiful beaches.
Check out the famed Le Sirenuse or Il Tridente Restaurants for the quintessential Positano feels but be sure to book ahead (bookings are taken 2 weeks in advance and fill quickly), if you're not up for a meal you can have aperitifs and cocktails at Franco's Bar (Be sure to get there early to get a table on the terrace with views to die for).
Head to Chez Black at the beach for a see and be seen moment or catch the little wooden Da Adolfo boat for Da Adolfo's Restaurant and chill time at Laurito Beach. You will need to book ahead for this one.
If you're looking for nightlife then Music on the Rocks should fit the (somewhat expensive) bill, things don't really get going here until midnight but once there you can dance what's left of the night away.
Hiking the Path of the Gods: For nature enthusiasts, the Path of the Gods offers an exhilarating trek with awe-inspiring vistas. This ancient footpath winds its way through terraced vineyards and offers breathtaking views of the coast and the sea.
Boat Tour: Book onto a boat tour here to fully appreciate the coast's beauty from the water. Explore hidden coves, sea caves, and enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine while cruising along the coastline. or take leisurely sunset cruise along the coast complete with a glass (or two) of Prosecco...it would be rude not to, you are on holidays after all....

We stayed at Hotel Casa Albertina and enjoyed beautiful vistas from our balcony. but there are many options to choose from. Find accommodation in Positano here Beware though, most places in Positano required getting up and down a lot of steps so you will get your cardio fix!

Sorrento: The gateway to the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento is a lively town known for its lemon groves, limoncello production, and stunning vistas.
Explore the bustling Piazza Tasso and take a stroll along the waterfront for a glimpse of the dramatic coastline. The town itself is stunning and so easy to explore. with hidden gems everywhere. Be sure to check out the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills) just near Piazza Tasso where you'll look down on spectacular ruins nestled at the base of a deep gorge, overgrown with lush vegetation and waterfalls.
Wander through one of the many stunning Amalfi Lemon groves, relax in their gardens and sample the Limoncello and other produce on offer.
Immerse yourself in the local culture by participating in a cooking class. Learn to prepare traditional Italian dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and gain insights into the region's culinary heritage.

Other Must See Places in Capri:
Blue Grotto: A visit to the Blue Grotto, a sea cave illuminated by an otherworldly blue light, is a must. Glide into the grotto on a small rowboat and marvel at the mesmerizing colors created by the play of light and water.
Villa Jovis: For history buffs, a trek to Villa Jovis, the ruins of Emperor Tiberius's palace, offers insights into the island's Roman past and commands sweeping views of the surrounding landscapes. A palace of debauchery there was some serious partying here back in the day, also be sure to check out Tiberius' Leap (Salto di Tiberio) where the emperor was said to have disposed of those that annoyed him (ie tossed them off the cliff into the sea). Getting There Is Half The Fun:
Reaching the Amalfi Coast is a breeze, thanks to a variety of transportation options available to visitors. The most common entry points are Naples and Salerno. From Naples, you can take a scenic train ride to Sorrento, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. As our first destination was Positano, we decided to take a fast train from Rome to Salerno.
Hot tip: From Salerno you can ferry across to towns such as Amalfi, Ravello or Positano. This has the added bonus of allowing you to see the spectacular coastline from the sea for the price of a ferry ticket (25 Euro at the time of writing this).
To get a driver or a taxi is a tad more expensive.... starting around 150 - 200 Euros to get to Positano as the drive takes about an hour due to the winding and narrow cliff roads and heavy traffic.
Hot Tip: If you decide to get a driver split the cost with other travellers heading to the same town, it makes the price much more reasonable and you get to meet new friends at the same time!
Driving yourself in this region is not generally recommended as the roads are not for the faint hearted and there are many traffic exclusion zones in and around the towns. However, if you're up for the challenge then the winding coastal roads offer breathtaking views at every turn, making the journey itself an unforgettable part of your trip.
Alternatively, flying into Naples International Airport provides a convenient starting point for your adventure and you can easily catch a train to Sorrento or Salerno depending where your first stay is.
Once you've arrived, the Amalfi Coast offers various modes of transportation to explore the region. Buses are a popular choice, providing a cost-effective way to travel between towns. Ferries are also a great way to get around, offering amazing views along the way.
